“My teaching is not my own.  It comes from him who sent me.  If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.”  (John 7:16)  How diligently have you searched Scriptures to test what Jesus said ?

Give God the Credit and Glory!

As mentioned in Jesus Said Don’t Be Ashamed of Him and His Words, Jesus was always giving God the credit and the glory.  He does so here again, by giving God credit for what he was teaching.  He put God first, encouraging people to ”choose(s) to do God’s will” and ”find out” whether or not Jesus was speaking on his own or if His teaching was from God.

Have we done that?  Have we studied what Jesus said  sufficiently to know that Jesus’ teaching is a fulfillment of God’s teaching and law? (Read Matthew 5:17-20).  Have we studied scripture enough to be certain that Jesus fulfilled the prophecies regarding the coming Messiah?

Acts 17:11 mentions a group of people in the early church, the Bereans, who examined the Scriptures every day.  This is one of the reasons they are described as being “of more noble character”.  Have we made this kind of effort to search the Scriptures?

 “Man of Truth”

In John 7:18, Jesus said, “…he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him.”  As Jesus said  in the prior two posts, once again Jesus claims that his teaching is truth.  In the referenced scripture, He challenges us to put His bold claim to the test, to verify for ourselves that His teaching is God’s teaching.  He defines himself as a ”man of truth”.  For those who are not completely convinced, Jesus encourages them to test Him, to find out if He speaks God’s teaching, if He really is a ”man of truth”, as claimed.

Call to Action

I am not a bible scholar, but I have searched the scriptures enough to be convinced that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of the Messiah and that Jesus’ teaching comes from God.  Do not just rely on this blog or the preaching you hear once a week at church.  Like the Bereans, act with noble character and search the scriptures for yourself !

If you need help getting started, contact The Jesus Said Project  by clicking here and requesting a list of scriptures.  Be sure to specify if you want scriptures related to Jesus fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah, scriptures related to the validity of God’s word, or both.

Do not leave any stone unturned or any doubt to remain until you, too, are convinced that Jesus’ teaching comes from God!
